Ghost Rider

Ghost Rider is another entry in Playtech’s series of slots based on characters from the Marvel Comics Universe. This slot game has 5 reels and 20 pay lines, a handful of bonus features and access to the four, bank-account-boosting Marvel progressive jackpots.

The Ghost Rider appearing in this slot is based on a Marvel Comics character who first appeared in 1972, and was created by Gary Friedrich, Roy Thomas and Mike Ploog. ‘Ghosty’ was a stunt motorcyclist called Johnny Blaze who gifted his soul to an arch-demon named Mephisto in exchange for the life of his father. At night, Blaze’s flesh is consumed by hellfire and he races around town on his phantom motorcycle with his skull ablaze.

Ghost Rider Gameplay and Symbols

The ghostly symbols in this game are playing card values nine to ace, plus symbols from the comic book, including Johnny Blaze in his day-time get up, the evil Mephisto and our fire-headed friend himself.

All twenty lines in this slot can be selected, so you can choose as many as you want in play for any one spin. You can also choose your line bet from 0.01 to 50.00, giving you a complete range of bets from 0.01 to 1,000.00. The more you bet of course, the higher the cash payouts available.

Pay outs are achieved by landing at least three identical symbols in sequence from the left hand reel on an active pay line. Normal payouts commence at 5x for three nines or tens, and run all the way up to the jackpot of 10,000x for five of Johnny Blaze when not in his ‘Ghost Rider’ persona.

Once you’re happy with your bet, rev up the reels by hitting the spin button, and keep your fingers crossed!

Ghost Rider Bonus Features

Wild Symbol: Ghost Rider himself acts as the wild symbol – appropriately perhaps as having your head on fire would be sufficient to drive most people wild. He appears on the central three reels and substitutes for all other symbols aside from the ‘Ghost Hunt Bonus’ symbol and the scatter. In free spins, whenever you land ‘Ghosty’ he expands to cover the entire reel, hopefully triggering more wins.

Scatter Symbol: The Ghost Rider logo acts as the scatter symbol. Just landing two anywhere on the reels will win you a prize, but if you land three or more you are awarded ten free games, and all wins during free games are multiplied by three.

Ghost Hunt Bonus Symbol: The Ghost Hunt Bonus symbol only appears during normal play, and not during free spins. When the symbol appears in the central position of any reel then that reel becomes activated, and remains so until you end your playing session or change the size of your bet. Once you have activated all five reels, you trigger the Ghost Hunt Bonus game.

In this game Ghost Rider rides on down the highway and as he does so, some spooky spectres zoom past him. You can fire at the ghosts as they pass and each ghost you hit adds a multiplier to your total. Once you’ve used ten shots, the multiplier is applied to your bet-per-line to work out how much you have won.

Marvel Mystery Progressive Jackpot: There are four Marvel Progressive Jackpots you can win while playing this game – Power, Extra Power, Super Power and Ultimate Power. All players playing any Marvel-linked slot across any online casino contributes to the jackpots which can build up to well over a million.

The jackpot is triggered randomly – but the more you wager, the higher the chances of it happening to you. If you land the jackpot game, you will be presented with a 4×5 grid filled with jackpot symbols. You keep clicking symbols until three identical jackpot symbols are revealed, and you then win that specific jackpot amount in cash!

Ghost Rider Conclusion

Ghost Rider is a decent addition to Playtech’s stable of Marvel-themed slots, but is let down slightly by some repetitive gameplay. It’s always worth playing a Marvel slot though, thanks to those mighty progressive jackpots. If you don’t win though, make sure – unlike Ghost Rider – you don’t get too hot under the collar!
