The Dark Knight is a 5-reel, 243-pay line online slot from Microgaming. This slot is based on the motion picture of the same name, directed by Christopher Nolan. This was Nolan’s second film based on Batman after ‘Batman Begins’, and again starred Christian Bale as The Dark Knight.
Most memorable in the movie was Heath Ledger’s marvellous turn as The Joker, complete with his disappearing pencil trick, and his inability to apply his make-up correctly. Both The Joker and Batman make an appearance in this atmospheric slot that comes complete with no less than four progressive jackpots.
Just like the film, this slot has a sequel named ‘The Dark Knight Rises‘.
The Dark Knight Gameplay and Symbols
The symbols in this game are bat-tastic playing card values ten to ace, plus images of all the stars from the film itself. Both Christian Bale (twice) and Heath Ledger make an appearance of course, as do Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel, Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent and Gary Oldman as Lieutenant Gordon. The slot is accompanied by music from the film.
To make things easy this slot has 243 pay lines, which means all possible lines are in play at all times. You just have to land identical symbols across the reels in sequence to win one of the payouts available – which actual reel each symbol appears on doesn’t matter, although the winning symbols do have to be on separate reels.
You have a limited coin size choice of either 0.01 or 0.02, but you can choose how many coins you wish to gamble with at between one and ten. All wagers are multiplied by thirty, so your minimum bet is 0.30, and your maximum 6.00 per spin.
Once you’re happy with your stake, hit the spin button and let the mayhem commence!
The Dark Knight Bonus Features
Wild Symbol: The Dark Knight symbol acts as the wild symbol and substitutes for all other symbols aside from the Joker symbol. It’s stacked in threes on all reels in both the basic game and in free spins.
Scatter Symbol: The Joker symbol is the scatter symbol in this game. You can win a cash payout as long as at least two of the symbols appear anywhere, but if three or more land then you’re awarded fifteen free spins that commence with a 2x multiplier.
Batman or Joker Feature: While you are spinning the reels Batman and The Joker like to pop up at random and award you random prize features. These can be such tricks as turning an entire reel wild, or awarding you a completely random multiplier.
The Dark Knight Progressive Jackpots: The progressive jackpots in this game (and there are four) are triggered randomly. The Mini progressive jackpot starts at 10.00, the Minor at 100.00, the Major at 10,000.00 and the Mega at an amazing 1,000,000.00. Players playing this game across multiple casinos add to the jackpot as they play.
If the progressive jackpot feature pops up while you are playing you get to spin a prize wheel, and you then choose to be either Batman or The Joker. The wheel contains ten purple segments for the Mini jackpot, six for the Minor, three for the Major and one for the Mega.
The Dark Knight Conclusion
This slots game is a great looking slot and the gloomy music helps to add to the atmosphere, but it has to be said the gameplay is a little lacking. Too much happens at random, whereas it surely would have been better if bonus features and the jackpots were triggered by player achievements rather than just by pure chance.
Those fantastic jackpots are what really make this game worth playing though, as winning the Mega progressive jackpot instantly converts you into a millionaire. As the missing Robin would probably declare if he won 1,000,000.00, “Holy Slots, Batman!”
