Many slot machines are found in bars and clubs, so the old drinking hole makes a great theme for any online slots games. So when we heard about a Rival Gaming slot machine called Pub Crawlers, we assumed that it would be all about the typical fun you might have at a pub: meeting people, hanging out with friends, and playing all sorts of pub games. Sure enough, this is exactly what the game is about – but the crawlers aren’t the kinds of people you’re probably imagining.
Pub Crawlers is a five-reel, 20-line slot machine that was recently released to online casinos using Rival software. Each line can be played for up to ten coins, with coin sizes ranging from $0.01 to $0.25. The game features a colourful cast of characters that are, quite frankly, the truest definition of “crawlers:” a number of insects who apparently patronize and work at the pub in question.
That’s right: this is a game all about an insect pub, creating a hilarious and surreal mix of thematic elements. We have ladybug waitresses and scorpion bouncers, along with plenty of caterpillars, grasshoppers and ants who are having a few drinks. There are plenty of bar flies (pun likely intended), spiders playing poker, and so on. The spider is the highest paying symbol, while a butterfly is used as the game’s wild symbol.
Several bonus features also exist to liven up the game, most of which have a way of using either the bar or insect theme to full effect. First, there’s the Drop Feature. If you should hit three or more cockroach symbols on the reels, you’ll first be paid your winnings. Then, the cockroach symbols will be squashed and removed from the reels, allowing new symbols to fall into their place, potentially making new wins. There’s also a free spins game which is activated if you hit three or more scorpion symbols, with more free games being given out if you hit more scorpions (up to a maximum of 20 if you hit five). During the free spins game, all of your winnings are automatically tripled!
Finally, there’s a second screen bonus game that can be reached by matching at least three of the billiards-playing bee. As you might suspect, this game is all about pub sports, and will have you playing darts. Players must choose an angle at which to shoot a dart, and then click to stop a power meter to determine how hard they throw it. Hitting the dartboard will earn a number of bonus credits, with players getting a total of three darts with which to make money. Like many Rival games, this bonus round has a very minor skill component, but it’s so simple to play that this shouldn’t really bother anyone.
It’s always nice to see a slot machine that comes up with a unique and wacky theme, but then also uses that theme in a fun way. With plenty of bonus games and lots of laughs, Bar Crawlers should be an enjoyable experience for just about any slots player.
