The object of Octopays is to match symbols from left to right across the reels. You’ll be matching not only the standard nines through aces, but also symbols like anchors, treasure chests, diving helmets and of course, undersea creatures. The more symbols you can match, the more you’ll win. There’s also a baby octopus symbol that only appears on the second and fourth reels, and which works as a wild to help complete winning combinations.
Those octopuses also serve as the trigger for this machine’s only real bonus round. If you should hit both on the same spin, you’ll trigger the Kraken Feature, a free spins game in which players receive a dozen free spins.
These free spins come with a host of different rules that need to be explained. First, during each spin, up to four baby octopus symbols may be placed on a reel by the Kraken. These symbols will replace the ones that were there before, and substitute for jut about any other symbol. If a baby octopus doesn’t complete a win, it will swim off the screen (as will all octopus symbols at the end of each free spin).
However, if you should be lucky enough to have an eel symbol hit the reels, you’ll get to see all the baby octopuses on the screen ink themselves. These symbols will remain wild, but will now also give you a 2x multiplier! In addition, the eel symbol – which only appears on the third reel – acts as a wild substitute itself, and also comes with the 2x multiplier.
